About this race: Elected to four-year terms, a state senator represents a district during annual legislative sessions, working on laws and budget issues, with district residents who have concerns about laws and state services, with groups affected by laws and spending. (This particular race is to finish the last two years of the unexpired term created when Jim West resigned to become mayor of Spokane.)

Constituency: The Sixth District stretches from the Indian Trail and Whitworth areas of Spokane, swinging around the west side of downtown, to the upper South Hill and parts of Moran Prairie.
