Attorney General

About this race: After eight years as Pierce County Executive, 59-year-old John Ladenburg, a Democrat, is challenging first-term Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna, 45. McKenna has expanded consumer protection enforcement, particularly in identity theft and computer crime cases. Ladenburg maintains that McKenna is largely a news-release tiger, talking tough at news conferences but not doing enough to tighten laws and enforcement. McKenna scoffs at that, citing his work with lawmakers to toughen laws involving sex offenders, mortgage scams and other crimes.
