About this race: Republican Chris Bowen beat an independent and another Republican for the chance to challenge Alex Wood, who is running for his seventh term. Wood, who won 62 percent of the vote in the primary, says he has gained important experience that will be helpful as the state deals with looming budget shortfalls. Bowen says his goal is to bring comfort and prosperity to his constituents.

Constituency: District includes most of the city of Spokane between Francis Avenue on the north and 17th Avenue on the south. West of Ash Street, the district only goes as far north as Providence Avenue. The district extends south of 17th in some areas.
