About this race: Coffee stand franchisee Kevin Parker beat two other candidates in the primary for the right to take on incumbent Democrat Don Barlow in a classic race between a fiscal conservative and social progressive. Barlow believes voters will want to keep him in Olympia to continue pushing for improvements in education and health care. Parker says the most important issue is the economy and that he would work for a government that "lives within its means."

Constituency: 6th District includes city of Spokane and its nearby suburbs. It curves around the central core from Moran Prairie to the Whitworth Area.
