This chat took place through AOL Instant Messenger, where Jim West used the screen name jmselton, an apparent reference to his name, James Elton West. The screen name Moto-Brock was assumed by a forensic computer consultant working for The Spokesman-Review, posing as a teenager online. In this chat, West sent his photo and a link to his biography at the Spokane City Hall website.

jmselton: whre have you been all day?

jmselton: i've been starving for you.

motobrock34: my friends little brother was racing today out at airway heights and I went out to watch him race his first race
motobrock34: just got back
jmselton: oh, how'd that go?
motobrock34: I stayed for his first race only, they race two races altogether
motobrock34: he did good though
jmselton: oh
jmselton: did you go alone?
motobrock34: got 4th in the one i watched
motobrock34: it was too flippin cold to stand out there and wait for his next one
jmselton: out of four?
motobrock34: he was pretty pumped
motobrock34: no, out of something like 28 guys in his class
motobrock34: so he was pretty pumped
jmselton: cool
jmselton: did you go alone?
motobrock34: i drove out there alone yeah but my bud was there with his dad and his little bro of course
jmselton: well you drove out alone.
jmselton: wasn't sure if your dad went with you.
motobrock34: i didn't feel like racing today, too tired from this week
motobrock34: i wished i was when i got there but i don't think i'd do that good
jmselton: ah
jmselton: i suspect you would have
motobrock34: i'm sore and tired and prolly wouldn't ride well
jmselton: so what are you doing for the rest of the weekend?
motobrock34: just chillin
motobrock34: gonna clean up my bike and my stuff
motobrock34: watch some tv
jmselton: yeah, i thought you were going to do that today.
jmselton: i'm thinking about you a lot.
motobrock34: yeah?
jmselton: is that weird?
motobrock34: no, it's great
motobrock34: i thought about you the whole week
jmselton: thanks
motobrock34: i was gonna ask you if you wanted to drive out there with me today
jmselton: no you weren't
jmselton: haha
motobrock34: but i figured you wouldn't really want to
motobrock34: yeah i did
jmselton: i came online late last night but too late to find you.
motobrock34: i thought it might be cool for u to see the sport
jmselton: i sent you an email and got up this morning to see if you got it.
motobrock34: we got a couple of pretty fast guys who ride out there
jmselton: yeah
jmselton: thats cool
motobrock34: i thought it might be fun 4 u to see it....maybe sometime this summer u can come out 4 one
jmselton: how would you have explained me to your buddy and his father?
motobrock34: i don't think i'd have to explain you, i'd just say you were a friend
jmselton: ah

motobrock34: i wouldn't even give it a second thought, i'd just into u and say u were a friend
motobrock34: they'd prolly ask u if u rode
jmselton: cool
jmselton: they'd know by looking at me that i don't ride.
motobrock34: lol
jmselton: does your friends dad ride? or your dad?
motobrock34: well we were gonna work on that member?
jmselton: we are
motobrock34: my dad has a bike but he doesn't ride nearly as much as he used to
jmselton: ah
motobrock34: he used to alot
jmselton: probably where you learned the sport huh?
motobrock34: he got me into the sport
jmselton: i am sooo smart
motobrock34: he likes going with me, sometimes he takes his bike
motobrock34: he races maybe a couple times a year is all
motobrock34: lots of dads just go to help their kids
motobrock34: a few race too
jmselton: yeah? i'll bet
motobrock34: man, some of them are fast as hell too
jmselton: yeah
motobrock34: my dad's pretty good still...he just doesn't like jumping some of the really big stuff
jmselton: not sure i would either.
jmselton: old guys break too easy
jmselton: and repair too slow
motobrock34: although, i got him to jump our pick up last summer
motobrock34: lol
motobrock34: we have a huge jump at one of the practice tracks we go to and he had his bike riding with us
jmselton: sweet
motobrock34: and we were all doing this really big one, its around 120 feet
jmselton: I'll watch and hold you if you fall.
motobrock34: and we put the pick up under the jump right
motobrock34: well so we were jumping it and the jump is so big u could clear 6 trucks if you wanted
motobrock34: and we were like "come on dad, don't be a baby"
motobrock34: we got him to do it
motobrock34: he was pretty pumped that he did
motobrock34: told my mom all about it
jmselton: i'll bet
jmselton: guys like that
motobrock34: he hit the jump so hard he could have cleared 10 trucks....lol
jmselton: even at our age
jmselton: evil knievel
motobrock34: but normally he doesn't do stuff like that
motobrock34: so what u doing this weekend?
jmselton: have a dinner in about an hour that i really don't want to go to but said i would.
motobrock34: lucky u!
jmselton: tomorrow afternoon i have to be somewhere at 3:30 for about an hour.
jmselton: may golf in the morning tomorrow.
jmselton: or just go to the driving range
motobrock34: want some company?
jmselton: maybe
jmselton: you interested?
motobrock34: sure
motobrock34: would love to

jmselton: you have a ram suv?
motobrock34: yeah, i'm not to good at it but u can show me
motobrock34: pick up

jmselton: i thought you had a suv but that wouldn't make sense would it.
jmselton: what time will you be up and around tomorrow?
motobrock34: sorry, that was my buddy at the track
motobrock34: was asking where to line his brother up for the next race
motobrock34: anyways

motobrock34: yeah, i'm not too good at golf but u can show me if u want
motobrock34: yeah, just now
jmselton: we could hit some balls

motobrock34: that's pretty early for a weekend!
jmselton: i'm going no where at 5 am
motobrock34: i get up at like 9 or so on sat and sunday but
motobrock34: sometimes I do get up at like 5am to go racing
motobrock34: but not if I don't have to!
jmselton: yeah
jmselton: so i have to be somewhere at 3:30pm tomorrow.
jmselton: so i should be home by 2pm
jmselton: so what time for you?
motobrock34: i can get up by 7 or 8 tomorrow because I guess I'm not going anywhere out tonight
motobrock34: so i can go to bed earlier
jmselton: you're not going out?
motobrock34: hadn't planned on it, i been gone all week so I'm just wanting to chill
motobrock34: watch some tv
motobrock34: listen to the race tonight on the net
jmselton: ok
jmselton: dinner starts at 6pm tonight. probably will goto about 9pm
jmselton: i should sleep tonight.
motobrock34: so i can get up earlier tomorrow
motobrock34: i'll prolly go to sleep by 10
jmselton: we could go to a 10pm movie and sit in the back and cuddle..... ;-)

motobrock34: u know i'm gonna be there next weekend right?

motobrock34: the pros
motobrock34: they are racing at Seahawk stadium
jmselton: thats cool

motobrock34: my buddy that races pro is racing that night

motobrock34: no, i haven't been there yet
motobrock34: two of my friends, we all went in on a room
motobrock34: for sat night

motobrock34: i'm super pumped
jmselton: too bad we could have made seattle a great adventure.
motobrock34: u would love watching the race
jmselton: so which guys will share the bed?
motobrock34: these are the fastest guys in the world
jmselton: three guys and two beds?
motobrock34: on the hardest tracks in the world
jmselton: that should be a good show.
motobrock34: we will get a cot too i think
motobrock34: thats usually what we do
jmselton: didn't they do that in the arena here last summer?
jmselton: forget the cot. just cuddle up

motobrock34: that is only at big football size areanas
jmselton: but some motocross evernt
motobrock34: they are at the Silverdome tonight
jmselton: cool
motobrock34: they had a freestyle comp at the arena last summer
motobrock34: freestyle jumping off of ramps

motobrock34: its cool, but its not racing

motobrock34: i'll be there next weekend and that is an open stadium
motobrock34: i'm wondering what the weather will be like

motobrock34: oh no, I wouldn't miss it

motobrock34: no, he lives in Bellvue

motobrock34: he always has had one, i don't know if he does right now

motobrock34: i sent him an e-mail that we would be there and we are gonna try to hook up afterward

motobrock34: he said he would be too nervous before the race but afterward we will prolly hook up and go out
