Hey Jim! I did too.

I downloaded AIM and I think I added you but I'm not sure. Are you [AIM HANDLE REDACTED]? Mine is [AIM HANDLE REDACTED].

Maybe I'll see you on line later. The race is on supercross.cc.com if you want to listen later. It will air between 7 and 9pm, just follow the links for the San Diego round and click on listen live. It's pretty fun to listen to. I checked the weather, it looks like it might be muddy.

Brock

P.S. I'm looking for a pic I feel comfortable sharing, I think I might have to scan one.

Thanks Brock. Nice to hear from you. I didn't get in from my dinner date until 1am. Kinda late I know. Didn't think it would run that long. Oh well. The dinner went on forever. forever. then we went to Ella's, the Jazz Club, downtown. Nice place. Good venue.

Hope your friend had a good race. I'm glad we got a chance to chat. Hope we can do it again sometime. Please take care.

I appreciate being your friend.

I'd love to chat anytime we are online together. It is really nice to be able to chat with you.

Oh man Jim, it was so great down there. I'm sore today. I haven't ridden much since last fall when tracks around here shut down for the winter so this was like two days of flat out hauling ass and i'm sore now! Cool poker game it sounds like, I don't really know much more than the basics of how to play. I'll just leave my aol open, hopefully the name I added was u. [AIM HANDLE REDACTED]?

Talk to ya later.

Hey Brock,

I was great to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed yourself in the tri-cities. I'll bet that would be a great place to ride with the warm weather already. Golfing sounds good. Maybe someday we could meet on Qualchan for a round of golf. I go there sometimes on weekends in the afternoon and link up with anyone that has an opening in their foursome.

yes my aim screen name is [AIM HANDLE REDACTED].

Take care.

It would be very cool to meet for a round there, it looks like an awesome place to play. I don't know if I'd embarass you being your partner though because I'm not that great. But hey, if it doesn't bother you, I'd love to play there!

I had my aol open tonight after dinner while I did homework. Didn't see you get on. This time of year (not having practice) i'm sometimes online when I get home from school around 3 and its a good time to chat for me cause noone is here. : )

Anyways, hope to chat witcha again soon. I wanna hear what its like in the big bucks boxes at the events you go to! LOL

Hi Jim,

Well yesterday was incredible riding! The weather couldn't have been any better, my friend had to turn the sprinklers on on his track for a while because it was getting dry and dusty. can you believe that in Feb!!!! I guess it's getting plenty wet today though!

Anyways I just wanted to say hi. I'm super pumped about my b-day present ... or were you just kiddin wit me? If you were just kiddin around that's cool. Well, I'll look for ya on-line later, or at least have my aol open if you get on later.

Dear Mr. Stewart,

A friend of mine has asked if I would consider you for an internship in the Mayor’s office. He informs me that you are a high school senior at Ferris high school in Spokane. He also says that you are an excellent student and a member of the football team.

If you are interested please contact Melissa Murphy in my office at 625-6250. She will have you fill out an application which will need your parent’s and school official’s approval. We look forward to hearing from you.

Holy crap, is this for real!?!? The Mayor of Spokane sending me an e-mail inviting me to apply for an internship? I can't hardly believe it! He is really a friend of yours? That is unreal! Well, I don't know what to say....."thank you" seems like not enough. But thank you, thank you thank you! Hopefully I'll actually get it but even being able to apply is just cool.

I looked for you again sat night but didn't see you before I finally got to tired to stay awake. How was the concert? I'll look for you on-line this week and let u know how it goes with the internship. Thank you again and again and again. That was just really cool of u to do.

I'm glad you wrote. I haven't called yet and I want to right away but when I went to tell my parents about the internship offer, I couldn't think of what to say in how and why I got the offer. Does that make sense? I think I should tell them before I put in for it and I know they are gonna ask why I would get an email like that. You got any ideas for what to say? I think if I say its from a friend on the net they'll ask more questions and wonder if its 4 real.

I'll think of something if I have to but I thought I'd like to ask what you thought too. Hopefully you'll get this e-mail tonight cause I'd like to tell my parenst about it and call his office tomorrow.

Thank you again so much for such an awesome oppertunity. I won't disapoint you!

Look, he has a standing high school internship program. If you asked at school they would probably know about it. Just tell them you heard the Mayor has an internship program and you were going to check into it to see if you can qualify. He's probably had three or four interns in the last few months. It's not as big a deal as you think really.

Hey Brock,

I'm in San Francisco this weekend for a family wedding. Sorry. It could have been fun. I'll be around later next week. I usually work until 5 or even 6 some nights so I don't get on line much until later in the evening. Like I just got home a few minutes ago -- it's 10pm.

Anyway, I hope you get the interview. Did you leave a message? They should get back to you. Hope you get it.

What did your folks say?

Enjoy you're Moto weekend. Hope all goes well for you. Take care.

Hey Jim,

I called again today a couple of times and noone was in City Hall! lol I will keep trying though! If you talk to Mr. West, please tell him I'm very excited and very interested and I will keep calling!

You probably left for the wedding already. I just got in myself. My buddy and me went riding today, the track out at Airway Heights is open for the season so that was pretty cool. We went over to his house after that and just hung out. He's not gay, in fact I'm pretty sure he is homophobic so we just ordered pizza and watched TV.

Anyways, I hope u have a great time at the wedding and if u wanna, we can maybe hook up for lunch next week when ya get back. That Black Angus out at the mall is one of my favs ... hint hint.

Well, thank you again for telling Mayor West about me and giving me the chance to do that. I wonder if they will want me to start right away or if I can wait till after our trip. I'd start right away if they want me to of course, that would be way more important. But if I can start when I get back then my buds won't be mad at me for bailing on them!

Talk to ya soon,
Brock

I got an answering machine saying it was Mayor West's office but noone was there. On Monday I will just take my moms cell to school and call earlier in the day. maybe they just go home at 3 from his office or something? I wish I had my own cell. Do you think it's ok to send Mayor West an e-mail and tell him I'm way interested and have called?

Are you in San Fran now? I didn't think you got your e-mail when u were away from home. You have so much going on you probably get your mail everywhere!

Brock,

Reply him an email so he knows you are interested and doesn't ask me next time I see him "what happened to that kid I recommended?" You could tell him that you tried to call and ask when a good time to call is.

You could also ask him to mail you an application form so that you can fill it out. Or you could give him your phone number so his assistant could call you and set up an interview.

They may have all the positions filled for this spring so you should get on it if you are at all interested. Hope all is well with you. I miss chatting with you. You are a nice guy and easy to know. Plus you seem very trustworthy. That's why I felt you'd enjoy working for the Mayor. Hope that works out.

Regardless of whether I am selected or not, I wanted to write you and thank you for your e-mail and the opportunity to apply.

Jim, I am soooooo incredibly sorry I missed our appointment this morning. My grandmother that lives out at 7 mile had heart failure early this morning and my dad asked me to go with him to take her to the hospital. Dad got me up at 5:30am and we just now got back. She is very sick and I don't know if she is going to be ok or not. She's going to be at the hospital for a while I guess and my mom and dad and me are going to be going back there this evening.

I was really upset because I didn't want you to think I had changed my mind about our friendship. I'll be bringing the application in this week, maybe I can "meet" you then and if you can, maybe we could go have lunch downtown or something. I was kind of caught in a tough spot because I couldn't tell my dad I wouldn't go with him but I didn't want you thinking badly about me either. I hope you will still teach me how to swing a golf club.

Brock,

Being pissed at you would not be something I would do. As I said Family ALWAYS comes first and don't you forget it. In fact I would be disappointed in you (not pissed) if you had kept our meeting with your family needing your support at this time. You have made me proud and given me a new reason to respect you more. I hope things work out for you and your family in this time.

Hello Jim,

It was a kind of crazy and not so fun week. My grandma is still very ill, I guess we are just kind of waiting at this point. I wasn't going to come over here to Seattle for the Supercross but my parents kind of talked me into it. I guess I can't really do much just waiting around and my mom will call if they need me to come back home right away. So yeah, I'm here in Seattle for the race at Seahawk Stadium. My same friend brought his laptop and I asked him if I could check my mail.

The weather here was not so good this morning, hopefully it won't rain tonight for the race. If you want to listen, it will be live on supercross.cc.com. You just follow the links that talk about the web cast or "live web cast" and you should be able to open a window that will let you listen in. It starts about 7pm.

I'm sorry it was not a good week to chat, I really didn't even get on my computer hardly at all. We are leaving for the stadium here in a few mins so I better go. I'll check back later tonight but it might be pretty late if we can hook up with that one friend of mine that is actually in the show tonight.

Talk to you soon,

Your Friend,

Brock

Hey Brock,

Glad you were able to get on line to check your mail. I was out of town most of the week myself but did get online once in awhile. When i take my work computer I can't get AIM and don't like to go to the web much.

Once again your parents are right. Enjoy your trip over there. I thought you bikers liked to mud it up. Just have to be extra careful. Hope your friend does well in the race. You never told me his name so I don't know who to root for.

Anyway, still looking forward to meeting and that golf game.

Too bad you haven't worked for me for awhile. I had an opening for my trip to DC in two weeks that it would have been cool to take you on but maybe some other trip later.

Take care.

Hi Jim!

We just got back to our room and I am borrowing my buds laptop again to see if you got my earlier e-mail and I am glad to see you did. Hey my friend did great. He was running in 4th for about half the race which is just incredible since these guys are the best in the world at this sport. He faded about half way through but finished nineth which also is fantastic. He was pretty bummed that he faded but man, we were all totally stoked for him. For a guy new to the pros to run up front like that is just amazing. I was really happy for him.

Anyways we are driving back tomorrow. There weren't any messages here at the room from my mom so I guess everything is the same there.

Man, I would be so stoked to go to D.C.! I so want to go there and see everything there. I want to see the White House, the Capital, the monuments, everything. My cousins been there and he said the museums were super cool, like the one that has the Wright Brothers airplane and stuff. How amazing to see all that! Is it really too late for me to go? I'm sure my principal and teacher filled out the form and stuff, I just didn't get a chance to get it back from him last week. I'm sure I can get it Monday and get it down there to you right away? Any chance I could still go? It's cool if it wouldn't be a good idea yet. I understand that completely and I know that that kind of stuff has to be the most important thing.

LOL ..... my buddy just asked me if I was writing a girlfriend because I was typing so much. God, if he only knew huh! ...... LOL

Well, I will see if you are on if I can get on my computer when I get home tomorrow afternoon.

Your good friend Brock.

Hey Brock,

Your trip to Seattle sounded great. Hope you guys all had a good time there, sounds like in spite of the weather it was good.

We'll have to talk about the DC thing. It would be great to take you but I have to think of the other high school interns and be able to explain why you, the brand new guy that we all just met, get invited and none of them did. The trip is from Monday, April 25th thru that Friday. So it would be pretty short notice for you and your parents anyway. I'll have to think about it some and maybe there will be another opportunity before you leave for college. It would be cool though and I love to show the place off. We're going with a group of about 65 business leaders from the Spokane area.

Hey, we have a big project downtown next Saturday called "Cleaning from the Core." It's a clean up day with volunteers in downtown Spokane. It's in the morning April 23rd. Even if you don't start interning next week you could come to that. It's at the Opera House at about 8am I think. Maybe you and a couple of your buddies could show up and help us clean. Do your community service for a day. And we could meet. How neat would that be?

If you get back to town early enough today you can call me if you want [PHONE NUMBER REDACTED].

Your Friend, Jim

Hi Jim,

I just got home a few mins ago. We ended up going over to my friends house (the one that raced last night) in Bellvue and hanging out with him a bit. He called our room this morning and invited us over for breakfast and we ended up kind of hanging out at his place most of the day. The race was on ESPN2 which we stayed to watch and it was pretty cool sitting there in the same room with him and watching him ride on ESPN. He seemed pretty stoked because they kept saying his name and talking about how well he was doing.

The clean up day sounds great. I don't know if I can talk any of my friends into being so "community oriented" LOL but it sounds great to me. Maybe we can go get something to eat afterward or something?

Well, I better get off to bed. My mom was a little pissed at me for coming in so late tonight when I have school in the morning but oh well.

I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Your good friend Brock

Brock,

Good grief! You got in at 6:00am in the morning on a school day? Of course your mom was PO'd. That was some trip. Sounds like you had fun which is good. After the cleanup on Saturday I have to give a speech to a labor rally but after that I'm free and lunch would be good. Congresswoman McMorris is in town so I may have to see her Saturday afternoon but I haven't heard from her yet so I don't know. Anyway, it would be good to see you and chat.

By the way, did you say you had a pickup truck? I need to get some pegboard for my garage someday. Do you suppose you could take me to the store?

Anyway, take care.

Jim

Brock,

Haven't heard from you this week. I assume you are busy with school and such. I'm hoping thats the case and I haven't done or said anything to put you off.

I miss chatting with you. Hope to hear from you soon. Maybe see you tomorrow at the Cleaning From the Core event.

Next week I'll have to chat via email since I won't have AIM on the laptop I travel with.
