DeVORE, Ruth
(Warwick)

Passed away on March 7, 2010 in Davenport, Wash-ington. Ruth was born on
October 22, 1916 at Setters, Idaho to William Rufus and Virginia Ethel (Cofer)
Warwick. She attended grade school in Mohler, WA and high school in Harrington, WA. She married Bill Whitney in 1937 and had one child, Nancy. They were
later divorced, and in 1957 she married Delmar DeVore and they had a son, David. Delmar was a farmer in the Bald Ridge area, near Davenport, and Ruth loved living on the farm. In 1986 they retired and moved into Davenport. In town, as well as on the farm, she had a large yard that always looked like a park. Working in her yard was a great source of joy and accomplishment to her. Ruth had a strong work ethic that began at a very young age. From the time she was 11 years old, she worked out every summer doing cooking, cleaning, gardening, canning and washing on a scrub board. She enjoyed keeping her home in perfect order and being a gracious hostess to all who visited. Ruth set a great example for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a true family matriarch. Her zest for life was exemplified in all she did. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar DeVore, her parents, Rufus and Virgie Warwick; sisters, Mary Ethel Parsons, Wilba Reid, Frances hardy, Geneva Warwick and Alice Warwick; brothers, Roy Warwick, Glenn Warwick, Earl Warwick and Bill Warwick; and great granddaughter Mylah Frees. She is survived by children Nancy (Whitney) Landon and Scott, of Lind, WA and David DeVore and Shirley of Davenport, WA. Her grandchildren include: Daniel DeVore, Davenport, WA; Sergeant First Class John (Becky) Cortez, Elk Grove, WA; Dallas (Jeri) Allen, Spokane, WA; Audrey (Michael) Largent, Colfax, WA, April (Chris) Conolley, Rathdrum, ID; Tamara "TJ" (Jeremiah) Nave, Nine Mile Falls, WA; Tommy Frees, Spokane, WA; Timmy Frees, Spokane, WA; Andrew Landon, Spokane, WA and Barry Landon, Federal Way, WA. Her great grandchildren include: Jessica Shaffer and Ryan; Austin Corean, James, Rebekah and John Largent; Ember Minkovich; Paige, Whitney and Jaylynn Nave; Mariah and Makenah Frees; and Ian, Brianna and Elijah Cortez. She leaves behind brother-in-law Kenneth DeVore, Kennewick, WA and sisters-in-law Lola Bull and Louise Ladwig, Clarkston, WA; and Ellen DeVore, Wasilla, AK. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends. Ruth was greatly loved by many and will be dearly missed by all. Whatever work God has for her in heaven, we know she will be up bright and early every day to fulfill each and every task to its fullest. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Strate Funeral Home, Davenport, WA with Scott Landon officiating. Concluding Services and Vault Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Harrington, WA. Memorials may be made in Ruth's name to the donor's choice.

HASTINGS, Wilma J.
(Age 89)

Wilma entered into rest March 7, 2010 in Spokane, her home for most of her life. Mrs. Hastings was born on May 28, 1920 in Walla Walla, WA to Guy and Margaret Scott. She was a 1940 graduate of
Lewis and Clark High School. She was known for being an award winning artist and homemaker. Wilma was the beloved wife of Perry W. Hastings who preceded her in death in 2000. She was a dearly loved mother of Bob White who passed away in September of 2009. Wilma was a loving mother of Linda Hastings of Spokane, Gary Hastings of Lynden, and Julie Hastings of Greenacres. She was the grandmother of Travis, A.J., Ryan, Jordan, Scott and Emily, and great-grandmother of Tyler Hastings. She is survived by her sister Wanda Duncan and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00PM on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Heritage Funeral Home.

KEMANO-CUSICK, Beverly Ann
(Age 63)

Passed away March 7, 2010 from cancer. Born in Spokane, WA to Glenn and Viola Cusick (both deceased). Beverly was living in Absarokee, MT. Beverly was preceded in death by granddaughter Gabby Kemano, of Spokane. She is survived by her son: Danny Kemano and wife Cindy, Spokane, WA; brother Gary Cusick and wife, Bonnie, Spokane, WA; two nephews: Michael and Alex Cusick; two grandsons: Conner and Alexz Kemano, of Spokane, WA. Beverly has requested no service.

Eleanor C.
(Age 92)

Eleanor passed away earlySaturday morning March 6, 2010 at the Hospice House of Spokane with her granddaughter Jenny at her side.
She was born on April 16, 1917 near Potlatch, ID to Edgar L. and Mary (Brantner) Curtis.
She attended the Daily Country School and the Palouse Schools graduating from the Palouse High School in 1935. She married William Wayne Moore on December 26, 1935. He died in 1982. Survivors include one son, David Moore and his wife Tina, Spokane, WA; one daughter Judy Wyborney and her husband Hank, Cheney, WA; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Laverne and Walter Moore, onebrother Ralph and Lawrence Curtis, two sisters, Pearl VanTine and Glendola Arrasmith. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Kramer Funeral Home, Palouse, WA with Pastor Kathy L. Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, Palouse, WA.

PETERS, Jeremy John Richard

Passed away Friday, March 5th at his home in Cheney, Washington. Our son, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend, Jeremy was a joy to all who knew him. Born April 1, 1981, in Spokane, WA, Jeremy grew up in Rosalia, Washington, where he attended school, made many friends and lived most of his life.
Jeremy loved spending time with his big brother and best friend, Josh and his dad Dennis. Growing up together, they enjoyed the outdoors, hunting andfishing, trips to the Oregon coast and working on muscle cars and riding dirt bikes. He also loved spending time with his grandpa Dick. The loss of his brother Josh three years ago was a tremendous loss to him that he never got over. We can find comfort that they are together again forever. Jeremy's heart was as big as he was. Kind and compassionate, his whole life revolved around Josh's children, his nieces and nephews, Josalyn, C'iara and William, being a very special part of their lives. Older than his cousins, Stephanie, Evan, Emily and Eric, he took them under his wing as well. He was a 6'7" gentle giant with a keen sense of humor and quick wit which will be missed, but always remembered. Jeremy was loved by his family. Always very social, he enjoyed family gatherings and hanging out with his friends. Jeremy had a great gift of storytelling. His laugh was unmistakable and contagious. He was a popular tattoo artist in Spokane using his talents and creativity todevelop original designs for his customers. Jeremy also loved being around his friends, music to the loudest extreme and enjoying time spent at concerts with his friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice. Jeremy is survived by his father and stepmother, Dennis and Cheryl Peters, Cheney, WA; mother and stepfather, Debbi and Randy Repp, St. John, WA; grandfather, Dick Shindler, Rosalia, WA; great-grandmother, Frances Shindler, Rosalia, WA; aunts and uncles, Dave and Dana Jensen, Richland, WA; Sabrina Jones, Spokane, WA; Kari Zabala, Spokane, WA; Kathleen and Tom Strobridge, Spokane, WA; Marlene Peters, Spangle, WA; Cheryl and Sam Roberts, Odessa, WA; Daryl and Charlotte Peters, Reedsport, OR; andnumerous cousins. Jeremy was preceded in death by his brother JoshuaPeters; his maternal grandmother, Judith Shindler; and his paternalgrandparents, John and Wilma Peters. A service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 11 a.m., Rosalia Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow at the Pine City Cemetery.

DAVIS, Gloria Deann

Gloria Deann Davis, 70 of Spokane Valley, Washington, passed away on March 4, 2010, at the Valley Hospital.

Gloria was born on August 11, 1939 at Wallace, Idaho, the daughter of Oscar and Bertha (Robbe) Williams. She has lived in the
Spokane area for the past 30 years. Gloria was a homemaker and mother, and enjoyed dancing and cooking. She had the greatest smile in the world. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in the Spokane Valley, also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her companion, Lloyd T Petersen, Spokane Valley, WA.; one son and spouse Jack and Sheila Davis, Bellevue, WA; four grandchildren, Jacin Davis, Kavan Davis, Kara Davis, Nick Jenkins; one brother, Owen Williams, Spokane, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents.

(Age 73)

Passed away on March 3, 2010. He was born on May 28, 1936 to Harry C. and
Lucille W. (McNamara) Hazel in Seattle, Washington. Bud grew up inYakima, WA., graduating from Marquette High School in 1954 where he was involved in student government, varsity basketball and elocution events. Following graduation he joined the Society of Jesus. In 1964 he left the Jesuit order and began a Master's program in Speech at theUniversity of Washington. In late 1965, he married Annette Dunton andtogether they raised four children. They divorced in 1985.
Bud taught at Yakima Valley Community College for four years beforeleaving to obtain a Ph.D. in Speech Communication at W.S.U. For the next 37 years he served Gonzaga University as a professor in Communication Arts as well as serving as the first Dean of Continuing Education for the university. Over time, he taught two sessions in Gonzaga's Summer-in-Florence, Italy Program. In 2003, Bud was awarded the Great Teachers' Program Award for Teaching Excellence. Over the years, he taughtweekend classes at Fairchild Air Force Base, conducted numerousworkshops and seminars and gave motivational speeches to variousorganizations and businesses around Spokane and the Northwest.
He published three books: THE ART OF TALKING TO YOURSELF ANDOTHERS, THE POWER OF PERSUASION and THE JOY OF TEACHING. Inaddition, he co-authored a college text, INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION: COMPETENCY THROUGH CRITICAL THINKING as well as a public speaking handbook.
Bud loved teaching and he loved teaching at Gonzaga. He had theuncanny ability to remember student names and the year or years he taught them. And students love HIM because he was clear and informed in his instruction, he had a sense of humor (noted for corny jokes and good impersonations) and he was always encouraging and upbeat not only with students but with everyone. He mentored many students and non-students in his lifetime. Truly he was an exceptional person.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, his four adult children, Michael (Izumi), Joel (Christa), Noelle Powell, Tony Hazel and two step-children, Bridget Morig and Barry Morig. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Neubauer and husband Gene of King City, OR., brother, Dick Hazel and wife, Cheryl of Portland, OR., brother, Dave Hazel and wife, Lynne ofYakima, WA and his deceased brother Tim's partner, Dick Grannis of Bothell, WA. He had six grandchildren, Ayano and Joanna Hazel, Avery and Necole Jones and Cooper and Emma Hazel. Three nieces survive him: Betsy Miller, Heather Thorn and Libby Hazel.
Bud led a very full life. He enjoyed reading, all major sports, going for walks, daily meditation and twice-weekly mass. He was able to travelseveral times to Europe and the British Isles as well as to Mexico andCanada. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Rosary will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 7 PM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 10 AM at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on the Gonzaga University Campus. Privatecommittal. Norma Hilda

Was born June 1, 1921 in Gardenville, New York, near Buffalo, and entered into rest on March 3, 2010. Norma is survived by a brother, Leonard Albig of Buffalo, New York; her son Robert Brown and his wife Pamela of Chattaroy; a granddaughter, Heather Brown of Walnut Creek, California, and
Cody Brown of Spokane. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Kamp in 2002. Jim and Norma were married on April 24, 1954 in Buffalo and enjoyed a long and happy life together in New York until 1970 and then in Southern California where Jim worked in the aerospace industry and she worked as a bookkeeper. They enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises each year. Norma did considerable volunteer work at her localhospital. She moved from California to Spokane four years ago to be with her son, Robert. Norma enjoyed a long and full life with a loving family, hercareer, travel, and volunteer work, and died peacefully at home.
