F.E. (Ned) Conley went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2009, in Spokane, WA after a nine-month battle with
cancer. Ned was born near Monet, MO on December 10, 1929. He graduated from Gonzaga High School in 1949 and then played
football at the University of Santa Clara, University of Portland, and UPS.
After graduation, Ned joined the Army and earned the rank of 1st lieutenant. He then met and married Patricia Sheely in 1955. He worked for Kaiser
Aluminum, Motorola Communications, Password Answering Service, the White Elephant, and Devries Atlas Van Lines until his retirement in 2006. Ned was a Big Sky and Pac-Ten football official for 21 years. Ned is survived by his wife, Pat, and his six children: Jeff (Karen) of Auburn, WA; Greg (Sally);
Jennifer Walther (Ed); Todd (Maureen), all of Spokane; Scott (Jackie), Vancouver, WA; and Carolyn Conley, Sierra Madre, CA., as well as 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, John Conley and sister Mary Ellen Knoll. Ned is preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Louise, and his parents, James and Adele Conley. Ned enjoyed traveling in his motor home. He and Pat spent many years exploring the west coast following Washington State football and Gonzaga basketball. They also loved camping at Priest Lake and visiting their out-of-town children on the coast. Ned 's past memberships include
Sigma Nu Fraternity, Kiwanis, Elks Club, and Our Lady of Fatima parish. He
also enjoyed his friends at Cougar Men's Coffee group. We would like to thank the staff of Rockwood Cancer Treatment Center, especially Camille and Dr. Jay Wittenkeller for your compassion and care over the last 9 months, as well as the staff on the 7th & 9th floor of Sacred Heart Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 2:30 pm at Our Lady of Fatima parish at 1517 E. 33rd Ave. in Spokane.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spokane Blood Bank.
