Hotel wall to show slides
U.S. Figure Skating Championships photos will be projected evenings through Saturday on the west side of the Davenport Tower downtown.
"News used to be static," said Spokesman-Review photographer Christopher Anderson. "This is one of the steps the newspaper is taking to break out of that mold in a very large and public way."
The shows also give the newspaper a chance to display photos that aren't printed in the newspaper.
The images, taken by Spokesman-Review photographers, will be displayed from 9:30-11 p.m. through Saturday. The Davenport Tower is on the southwest corner of Sprague Avenue and Post Street.
Anderson said the slide show isn't much different than what you'd see in a typical family's living room, although the equipment is a bit more sophisticated and the images quite a bit larger. Some of the skating photos will climb 40 feet high up the side of the building.
Photos of Senior men, women and pairs will be displayed on tonight, and the Friday and Saturday shows will be a mix of the best shots from the week.
The Spokesman-Review will produce similar shows, and perhaps add music and video, in the future for events like Hoopfest and Bloomsday, Anderson said.
